#DidYouKnow On April 15, 1960, The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, also known as SNCC, was founded on the campus of Shaw University during a conference led by Ella Baker.

SNCC was comprised of young activists and organizers who led consistent nonviolent campaigns across the South to end discrimination against Black people.

Their efforts included grassroots organizing, sit-in demonstrations, voter registration drives, marches, and more. For the first time, the civil rights movement saw the powerful emergence of young people in its leadership ranks. Some members of SNCC included John Lewis, Diane Nash, Marion Barry, Julian Bond, and Dorie & Joyce Ladner.
