late afternoon kickoffs… and one of the coolest shots I’ve ever achieved 🏈☀️

quick storytime here:

As many people know - I absolutely hate gimbals, but using them for certain scenarios results in magic. I’ve been wanting to do this kickoff glide cam style look since I saw dburns_dop post a similar clip a while back, but always felt hesitant because I have an irrational fear of gimbals failing - and if you swipe to the second slide, you’ll see exactly why 😂

That was during the first kickoff of the game, and I was absolutely rattled at that point, and felt immediately dejected from trying it again later, ready to send my gimbal into the sun. 

But then I remembered that the process was always more important than the result, something I’ve built a lot of my career on. So once the first half was done, I went back into the media room, rebalanced the gimbal, and got in position for the kick once again - and got the first clip you see.

Moral of the story? Even someone with several years of experience has moments of failure and frustration, where your gear, the moment or a mental error prevent you from getting the shot you want. But even through frustration, you can’t let one bad moment rattle you to the point of not trying again. In this case, the second time was the charm to get this shot 🎥

Also - Instagram is a highlight reel most of the time, so I wanted to show the ugly side of content creation as well, when something completely doesn’t go according to plan. I’ve had so many of these moments over the years where you get pissed off and annoyed, and I wanted to show that behind every unbelievable shot, there’s probably like 3-5 times where that shot didn’t work out in the first place.

But don’t get it twisted… I still hate gimbals 😮‍💨🤣
