If you guys have been following along in my stories, you know that I’ve recently discovered that I am perimenopausal. It started one morning a few months ago when I woke up and literally had trouble getting out of bed. I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt like someone spent all night laying a pile of bricks neatly on my chest, row by row, and I. could. not. move. I can’t think of a single time in my life this has EVER happened to me, not even when I had the flu.

Which is exactly what I thought I had. The flu or COVID or some other terrible affliction. Thankfully, though, I did not have any of those things and the fatigue eventually dissipated towards the end of the day. But I noticed, more and more, that the unearthly tiredness would visit me a few mornings a week. I also noticed that Aunt Flo was coming by every 10 days or so and talk about UNINVITED GUESTS.

Sadly, because healthcare in the US SUCKS, I can’t get into see an OB/GYN for two months. Luckily, my primary care physician was the one who suggested I am entering this lovely phase in my life. I also called my mom who was like “har har har I started when I was 42! you got 3 extra years!”

Why does no one adequately prepare us for this? I wake up some mornings and want to cry. I feel like my body is gaslighting me on the regular, now, and am honestly scared to go to the bathroom sometimes (TMI?). I mean, I knew this was going to happen, but (a) didn’t realize it would happen this early (I’m now learning women can get it in their 30s??!?), and (b) didn’t realize tiredness could feel like THIS, and (c) had no idea that it’s up to me to duct tape my body back together (with vitamins, hormones, gels (WHUT?!), protein shakes, heavy lifting, blah blah blah—and meanwhile, my 51 year old husband’s like “here’s my protein shake I made it with two bananas and peanut butter look at my biceps baby”)).

Anyhoot, the above is a bit of my perimenopausal diary. Enjoy. Also, if you want the recipe to this kimchi jjigae, comment “PMS” and I’ll DM it to ya!

Love to my #perimenosquad <3
