When photos of a well-known nontypical surfaced on Facebook last year, social media sleuths accused a Virginia man of poaching three bucks. Now he's been sentenced with some of the harshest poaching penalties in recent memory.⁠

Two men were sentenced with fines, jail time, and the suspension of hunting privileges for their roles in poaching three whitetails from Richmond, Virginia, last fall, including the infamous nontypical whitetail known as the Hollywood Cemetery buck. Jason Walters, who outed himself when he claimed to have killed the unmistakable buck some 70 miles from its known range in downtown Richmond, pled guilty to 20 wildlife charges. Walters was sentenced to six months in jail with three months suspended, fines totaling $2,500, and replacement costs totaling $11,000 for killing the Hollywood buck and two other bucks that he shot illegally in 2023. Walters also lost his hunting privileges for 100 years, though 76 of those years were suspended, resulting in an effective suspension for 24 years.⁠
