Embark on a wild journey with cinematographer Katie Wardle, who brings the world's beautiful and rich species into our family rooms, sparking awareness and action for conservation. From sub-Antarctic islands to Scotland's shores and British Columbia's forests, Katie works hard to provide authentic stories to bring awareness and protect against ecosystem collapse, climate breakdown, and habitat loss.

Photo 1: Captured during the production of "A Year on Planet Earth" for ITV, this image depicts Marion Island, a sub-Antarctic island situated off the coast of South Africa. Over 8 months, Katie collaborated with Tom Hartwell and Ruth Peacey to document the year in the life of a king penguin. Specifically, this shot was part of the opening sequence featuring the colony at Kildalkey Beach. The filming conditions posed significant challenges due to the island's remoteness, necessitating equipment capable of enduring harsh elements while remaining lightweight for transportation across rugged terrain. The RED #HELIUM8K proved to be the optimal choice for its versatility in accommodating various shooting setups, including the use of a Ronin stabilizer, jib crane, long lens, and underwater rigging.

Photo 2: Titled "Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story," a documentary feature for National Geographic, this photograph captures a BTS moment on Shetland, Scotland. Katie dedicated a month to patiently awaiting Molly's daily appearances in the bay, capturing her natural interactions with fellow bay inhabitants through a long-lens perspective. Molly's distinct behaviour presented a unique opportunity, albeit one requiring endurance during the summer's extended daylight hours. To effectively manoeuvre along the shoreline and capture scenes across the bay, she relied on the RED #GEMINI5K camera paired with the Canon CN20 lens, a combination perfectly suited to the task.
