Protective Services Officer (PSO) Archie Gulmen says it’s never too late to pursue your goals. After 24 years away from studying, he dove into the Victoria Police Academy as a PSO – he’s never looked back. ⁣
⁣
If his commitment to the safety of his community wasn’t enough, it turns out that Archie is serving in more ways than one. Part-time, Archie is a cook in the Army Reserve who has provided humanitarian aid in efforts like Bushfire Assist 2020. Full-time, he’s at Flemington Police Station, patrolling Flemington Train Station and keeping the public safe. ⁣
⁣
Since moving to Australia, Archie has given back to the country and community that has embraced him, but why both? “Both the military and the police share core values such as integrity, professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to serving and protecting others.”⁣
⁣
When asked how he juggles both roles, Archie says that his commitments come with full support. “They [VicPol] have always been understanding and encouraging, making it easier for me to fulfill my military commitments. This level of support has boosted my morale and effectiveness as a service member.”⁣

It goes without saying, Victoria Police hosts a diverse workforce. Our members, despite fronting what is already a challenging career, somehow in their spare moments continue to achieve wondrous things. ⁣
