## Caption

New study published in sciencemagazine reveals the outsized role sharks play in maintaining #biodiversity and ecosystem health. The 500+ species of sharks around the world are true ecosystem architects that play a variety of vital roles within the ocean.

As apex predators, sharks influence the behavior and abundance of their prey, creating a ripple effect in the carbon cycle. But marine wildlife hunting, habitat loss, and climate change threaten shark populations.

My organization rewild is proud to work directly with the sharkconservationfund to restore ocean health through sweeping shark and ray conservation, including fisheries reform and #30x30. Collaborative efforts like these help to ensure sharks can continue to play their pivotal role in carbon storage and ocean health.
