With easy access to big name resorts like Breckenridge and Vail, visitors flock to Frisco all winter long to enjoy the charming mountain town, snow tube at the Frisco Adventure Park, and cross-country ski across a frozen Lake Dillon. What many tourists fail to realize is that once the lake defrosts (which it does…eventually) an entirely new world of adventure awakes–perfect for a summer stint in the mountains where the sun is hot, the air stays cool, and the mountains don't require a parka or a set of skis to be fully enjoyed.

Sandwiched between Keystone and Copper Mountain, Frisco is only an hour and twenty-minute drive from Denver, which makes it ideal for a day trip or a weekend getaway–in which case we recommend booking a room at the friscoinn, a European-style bed and breakfast that has its own spa and wellness center. If the surrounding mountains are calling, there’s easy access from town to miles of trails for hiking or mountain biking. But, if you want to get wet, then head to The Marina: A watersport enthusiast’s paradise. Here you can rent anything from a kayak or a paddleboard to a pontoon boat, for a day out on Lake Dillon. You can also take sailing lessons or sign up for one of their sailing tours like Women and Wine on the Water. Name a better combination, am I right? After a long day on the lake, appease your appetite back in town where the humble Main Street (it’s only about eight blocks long) is home to Italian, German, Asian, and Nepalese restaurants, as well as locally-owned bookstores, boutiques, and art galleries.
