Today in Hip-Hop — Lauryn Hill releases her critically acclaimed debut solo album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.’ 

After her time with of The Fugees, Hill was determined to branch out on her own with new music that was different than what she was known for. Working on this album between New York and New Jersey to London and Jamaica led the result to have a blend of sounds from Hip-Hop to Neo-Soul with influences of Reggae. 

The album debuted at the top of the Billboard charts and earned Lauryn Hill a historical moment as ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ became the first Hip-Hop album to win a Grammy for Album of the Year.
