Members of the Class of 2025 attended our Senior Companions Retreat in Midland, Ontario, Canada this past weekend, held at the site of the North American Martyrs Shrine. 
 
The group prayed and held Mass at the site of the saints’ martyrdom (photo with stone altar), visited their burial site and also celebrated Mass at the altar of St. Pope John Paul II’s visit 40 years ago. 
 
The students spent the three-day, two-night retreat without any phones or technology.

“These students are true leaders with great depth and generosity,” said Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Chuck Frederico, who led the retreat with Campus Minister Ron Ahrens ‘91 and history teacher Justin Siuta.

“We are blessed to have them.” 

The group’s prayer was rooted in the Ignatian Examen and the Application of the Senses from the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. 
 
“We looked at the history of the martyrs … the Jesuit relationship with the Huron Natives, and how this context pertains to the students in their discernment for college and life as men of faith,” Frederico said. “We also shared stories at a bonfire about what a gift Canisius High School is to each of us.”
