Despite the challenges of COVID-19, Black women-owned businesses have soared! From 2017 to 2020, their numbers rose to 52,374, making up 37.2% of all Black-owned businesses.

The health care and social assistance sector leads with 45,000 out of 161,000 Black-owned firms. These businesses provided income for approximately 1.4 million workers in 2021, with annual payrolls totaling $53.6 billion.

This data highlights the resilience and growth of Black entrepreneurs, underscoring their vital role in the economy. Despite being smaller, with two-thirds having fewer than 10 employees, these businesses are a cornerstone of our communities and economic vitality. Supporting them not only fosters diversity but also strengthens local economies and promotes broader economic equity.
