I was so excited to chat with abellewrites after reading her memoir. In it, she writes about the complexities of growing up in a mixed-race immigrant household in 1980s Florida. Even if your life story doesn’t mirror Annabelle’s, there’s still a lot in the book that’s really relatable. ⁠

In the interview, I got to learn more about why the former restaurant critic decided to write a memoir. We also talk about the aftermath of the book and what it’s meant for her relationships to family members—especially her fiery Filipino mother, whose story is central to the book. ⁠
