Oregonians in prison face “significant barriers” connecting with loved ones due to high phone rates and overly complicated signup requirements, burdens that jeopardize their ties to loved ones and threaten their “successful reintegration” into the community, according to the Oregon Corrections ombudsman.

Ombudsman Adrian Wulff recommended that Oregon follow the lead of a handful of states, including California, in providing prisoners with free phone calls.
