“I went with my mother to sell the house my great great great grandmother built. The items we chose to ship were all old, delicate, and deeply personal: numerous paintings on stretched canvas, 2 vintage KitchenAid mixers, and the cast iron Singer sewing machine from 1886 in a wooden case that 5 generations of women (myself included) learned to sew on."

“I went to The UPS Store a couple times. The first trip was for artwork. Kevin Rodriguez handled my case from start to finish and he communicated exactly what was happening at each point. Kevin handled my items carefully and respectfully even before learning their sentimental value. He made sure they were packaged very carefully. He and his coworkers did their best to consolidate packages to reduce the cost without compromising safety."

“I was so happy to see Kevin working the counter the next day when I brought the sewing machine and mixers to ship. He remembered me. I can't explain how much I needed the break in the emotional labor that he and his coworkers gave me. Their admiration, interest, and respect for the sewing machine assured me that it would arrive safely. I know how much mental and emotional relief Kevin gave me during this hard time by doing his job with such care and compassion. You can't train kindness. You can support it and you can foster it, but you can't teach kindness from an employee manual.”
