Shawn Skelly has announced his resignation from the Adrian College women’s ice hockey program on Thursday, August 29th. He has decided to move on to pursue a Division I coaching opportunity.

Skelly, a member of the Bulldogs’ first #NCAA men’s ice hockey team, played for Adrian from 2007-2011 . In four seasons, Skelly played in 113 games tallying 102 goals and 127 assists for 229 total points. He was the first NCAA men’s hockey player in program history to be named to the Adrian College Athletics Hall of Fame.

After a professional playing career for the next five seasons with stops in the #CHL, #ECHL and #SPHL, Skelly returned to Adrian for the 2016-2017 season as an assistant women’s ice hockey coach. He spent the following season on the men’s staff before returning to the women’s team as head coach. He holds a career record of 140-22-7 over six seasons with the Bulldogs for an .828 winning percentage and a record of 80-5-4 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (#NCHA) play. 

Under Skelly’s helm, the team was six-time NCHA Regular Season Champions and five-time Slaats Cup Champions. They qualified for the NCAA Frozen Four two times with one national championship appearance this past season. Four times were players named NCHA Player of the Year & twelve earned All-Americans honors.

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
