PETERSEN’S GOT A PEP IN HER STEP: Today’s pep rally aims to get the Knights pumped for the volleyball matches, including the varsity teacher appreciation game against Crockett at 7:30 p.m. at McCallum and the football game against Elgin, also at 7:30 p.m. at House Park.

Senior Sonya Peterson feels the rallies are vital for building school spirit.

“I like pep rallies because I feel a sense of community with my fellow seniors,” Petersen said.

She believes in the superiority of the senior class.

“I like reaping the rewards of seniors cheering louder, having more spirit. We have more [seniors] show up, we’re taller, and we’re better,” she said.

As a senior, Petersen sees this year as a final chance to make the most of high school.

“It’s our senior year, our last at McCallum, and we want to make the most of it,” she said.

Her favorite part of the pep rally is doing the Hawk.

“I like when we crouch down and go side to side with our arms around the people next to us,” Petersen said. “It feels so hype.”

Although the juniors won the victory chant at this pep rally, Petersen remains optimistic.

“I think the seniors need to step up their game, have more school spirit, and want it more,” she said.
