I didn’t get the internship.
but in many ways I’m kind of glad I didn’t. I started Houdini 13 months ago because I wanted to get into this studio, but I think both the company and myself knew I still had a lot of room to grow. I’m not torn up about it, what this experience has shown me is that I am really passionate about exploring more “experimental” forms of 3D, and I don’t even know how much time I would have had to do that if I was was putting my all in for another company.
I started #LennicaDigital with the purpose of creating whatever the heck I wanted, in a medium that was new and fresh for me. Houdini still feels plenty new, but the more work I did in “service to my demo-reel”, the more I wanted to explore styles that might not be standard to the #CG industry as a whole.
I will be applying again next year, but in the meantime I am going to create 100 NEW pieces for Lennicadigital, tossing out the window the perfection posting mindset , a detrimental habit I have developed in the last 6 months.

This is Day 1: An apple in a ‘painterly’ style.
I’ve been quite eager to post it, even know I can see many flaws I think doing daily art again will help me push the boundaries of what I thought I was capable of, instead of what other people want.
