Ordering whiskey neat simply means you enjoy it as-is—straight from the bottle in a glass with no ice, water, or mixers. Anyone who’s seen a classic Hollywood film noir or a 1940s Western probably has the romanticized image of someone sidling up to a bar and ordering whiskey neat. The bartender bangs down a glass, pours a couple ounces, and the patron slams it back. 

Sure, that’s one way to do it, but sipping whiskey neat is much more enjoyable than throwing a shot down your throat.
