CONNECTIONS WITH THE STAGE AND WITH AGE: MacTheater opened its second week of the musical “Tuck Everlasting,” with a Thursday night show featuring half of the alternate cast in primary roles.

AJ Brown, who plays young Miles and is in the ensemble, said this musical creates an impacting and memorable message. 

“By the end of the story, it really helps you learn that aging is beautiful and that is something everyone should experience.”

Brown said his most rewarding moments of doing the musical was the connections and relationships he’s built with his fellow cast members. 

“My favorite memories are shared with the family I built with the people I’ve been working with. It was really great to connect with all my senior friends and meet the freshman coming in. I had a great time working and getting closer with everyone due to the smaller cast this year.” 

Brown said along with the people he became closer with, he also deeply connected with his character. 

“I feel for Miles because he lost his son, and I can relate to that because I lost my grandmother a while ago who I was really close with. This made me sad for the character but allowed me to bring the emotion out on stage because I know what it feels like to lose someone.” 

Overall, Brown enjoyed every moment of the production and the rewarding feeling of being on stage. 

“The best part of performing is when I step on stage for that very first time and you hear everyone yelling and clapping for you,” Brown said. “It’s really rewarding especially after all the hard work I’ve put in.”
