Essential Tips ⤵️ — Road Tripping Iceland: Do’s & Don’ts 🌋

✅ Do: Rent a camper van for total freedom. 

A camper van gives you the flexibility to explore on your own terms, stopping wherever the landscape calls (and it will, a lot!). It’s your TRANSPORTATION & HOTEL all in one 👍. 

🚫 Don’t: Forget to pay parking fees! 

Make sure to check for signs & pay accordingly—fines are expensive and sneak up on you! We were super careful and still missed one, costing $45. 

✅ Do: Take turns on one-lane bridges. 

Iceland’s rural roads are filled with single-lane bridges. Be courteous, yield to the other driver, and share the road ✌️. 

✅ Do: Camp only in designated campsites.(there is no wild—free—camping!)

Iceland is serious about preserving its natural beauty. Stay in official campgrounds to respect the environment and avoid fines. Plus, most campsites have facilities! 🚿

TIP: use this website to search campsites and read reviews (so helpful!) — Tjalda.is. 

✅ Do: Drive the Ring Road counterclockwise to ensure you’re on the coastal side 🤩. 

Starting from Reykjavik head east to immediately find epic scenery. You’ll also have an easier time accessing scenic pull-outs. The landscapes are unbelievable!

**🚫 Don’t: Speed!** 
Give yourself extra time—- max speed is 55mph (90 kph). Speeding tickets are EXPENSIVE — a felllow was fined $1,000 euro for speeding 😮. 

PS - Iceland has a fun way of monitoring speed— a smiley face when you follow the limits and a frown if you don’t. Collect those smiley faces! 😊

TIPS ⤵️

🚐 We selected gocampers because of the excellent reviews, and couldn’t have been happier. Their service and van set up were spot on—- highly recommend!

▫️ We enjoyed the GO Lite Camper—cozy, low gas mileage and our favorite—it was easy to transform the bed to dining table 👌.
