#OnThisDay in 1967, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first African American Supreme Court Justice of the United States. 

Marshall played a vital role in the Civil Rights Movement. In 1954, he argued this historic Brown v. Board of Education case, which declared segregated schools were unconstitutional.
