MOVING MAE TUCK: Friday evening McCallum welcomed the second week two performance of “Tuck Everlasting.” The performance included the return to the stage of Fiona Kirsch in the role of the matriarch of the Tuck family. Mae Tuck is a wise and motherly figure, caring most about keeping her family together.

One might say the same about Kirsch. Throughout the process of this production, she has loved to watch her castmates work and has appreciated the support they have provided her.

“My favorite part of ‘Tuck Everlasting’ has to be the connection that I’ve made with everyone in the cast,” Kirsch said.”They’re always there to congratulate me whenever I need it the most.”

After the first week of shows, Kirsch found time to sharpen her performance, her biggest take away being on acting out the intense emotions Mae Tuck undergoes during the play. Kirsch feels like she has deepened the wide range of emotions she exhibits after each performance.

“Things have become much more genuine as the second week has come around,” Kirsch said.

Although Kirsch finds it difficult to relate to Mae Tuck due to her age and lived experience, she says she shares Mae’s desire to be loved and to spend time with people she cares about.

“‘Tuck Everlasting’ sends the message that the cycle of life and death is the way it is for a reason,” Kirsch said. “Though there is sadness in each loss, in turn something beautiful is born.”
