Fun fact about this race here in Africa that we are about to start tomorrow: the full US rally championship (9 events) is a total of 1640 kilometers (1019 miles) competitive stage miles. The East African Safari Classic Rally’s total distance of competitive stage miles (over 8 days of racing) is 1823 kilometers (1133 miles)! This single race is over 100 competitive stage miles longer than the 9 events in the US championship!! Amazing.

The East African Safari Classic Rally is a “route book” rally. There are no pace notes, and we do not recce. It’s all blind, but using a route book that tells us hazards, where to turn at junctions, speed zones through villages, where the finish is, etc. This is the first time I am doing a rally like this, so I will be hearing different notes and instructions unlike any rally I have done before!

Each evening, we are given the route book for the following day. So, previous to the event, the photo here of a general map is all we know about the route. We have 9 days of racing (1 of the days is a rest/car re-prep day) and there are 3 stages each day (total of 24 stages).

@alexgelsomino and I are ready to start this adventure tomorrow with @tuthillporsche. We have learned as much as we can about the car, done our testing, and made some changes to get our setups how we like.
