“Coraline” is having quite a year, which is particularly impressive since the animated movie originally opened in 2009. The first feature from Hillsboro’s Laika studio is celebrating its 15th anniversary, with a party that has far included “Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail,” an installation of 30 cat statues decorated by artists, which are placed in locations around Portland. The final day to see the statues in their locations around the city is Thursday, Oct. 10. The cats will be auctioned off on Oct. 30, as a fundraiser for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

Adding to the 15th anniversary festivities has been the very successful return of “Coraline” to theaters for limited engagements that have shown the enduring appeal of the fantasy film. This summer’s “Coraline” theatrical showings grossed more than $53 million worldwide.

Now, just in time for the spooky season, news comes that Laika’s “Coraline” is coming back to theaters, in partnership with Fathom in the United States, and Trafalgar Releasing in international markets. The film will screen on Halloween, Oct. 31, and also on Nov. 1.
