POV: You've traveled full time for 18 months with your family, visited 18 countries, & STILL spend way less $$$ than what you’d pay for rent in NYC.

$81,000. That's how much we've saved by NOT renting an apartment in NYC for the last 18 months.🤯 I'll do the math so you don't have to: our monthly rent for our (basic) 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom place in Queens was $4500 a month and, you what? We actually thought we were getting a DEAL! 😰

Y'all. $4500/month is a whole mortgage on a 7 bedroom mansion in Texas 😂😝...

That's the insane thing about living in these expensive cities-- they'll have you thinking paying this much for accommodation is normal. (I also used to live in Hong Kong and London and paid $2200 and $2000 for a 1 bedroom flat, respectively… so yeah 😅).

Meanwhile, we've spent around half of that on our travels around the world these past 18 months. While we're not on a strict budget by any means, we often select where we go next based on affordability from the cost of the plane ticket, to the price of lodging, to how much you'll pay for groceries. That's why we spent 4 months of the past 18 in Latin America (2 months in Mexico and 2 months in Colombia and Guatemala): your money goes so much farther there!

Anyway, just a reflection on life on the road vs. our stint in NYC and how long-term travel can actually cost less than staying home. We’re spending the next couple of months in Miami (we own a property here) and the prices of everything are a SHOCK to the system.

I THOUGHT Florida was going to be cheaper than the northeast but today’s price isn’t yesterday’s price *Fat Joe voice*…. Inflation is a real thing outchea!🫠😩

Thank goodness we’re off to Southeast Asia for a couple months this winter— our pocketbook will be glad for the break, whew.

What questions to do you have for me about traveling full-time/ long-term? And what's the most expensive place you've ever lived in? NYC is still at the top for me!
