A Chinese woman born with two uteruses reportedly gave birth to twins, one from each womb. The babies — a boy and a girl — were successfully delivered via C-section in early September at a hospital in Xi’an, Shaanxi province. ⁠

The woman, surnamed Li, was born with uterus didelphys, a rare condition in which a person develops two uteruses and cervixes, affecting only about 0.3% of the global population. ⁠

After suffering a miscarriage during her first pregnancy, Li was surprised to learn in January that she was not only pregnant with twins but also carrying one in each womb. ⁠

Commenting on the rarity of Li’s case, Cai Ying, a senior obstetrician at the hospital, said, “Compared to a normal pregnancy, the overall incidence of twin pregnancies in a uterus didelphys is about one in a million. Naturally conceiving twins in each chamber of a uterus didelphys is even rarer, with only a few cases reported both domestically and internationally to date.”⁠
