It’s official. Former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter has been appointed by Chicago Fire as new head coach and director of football.

Berhalter will be replacing two men for this role. He will take over from Georg Heitz as director of football, and take over from Frank Klopas as head coach.

He will report directly to Fire owner and chairman Joe Mansueto.

Fire are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table. They have failed to reach MLS playoffs for seven consecutive seasons 😳

Berhalter has been living in Chicago with his family since 2018 following his USMNT appointment, so this seems like a perfect fit. And it will be a tough challenge to turn that franchise around.

“I’m honored to be named Director of Football and Head Coach of the Chicago Fire, and I would like to thank Joe Mansueto for his trust,” Berhalter said. 

“Chicago is an incredible city with a true love for the sport, and it has become home to me and my family over the last six years.”
