## Caption

We've heard from multiple people in the NRV that out-of-town solar companies have been knocking on doors and telling people that the 30% federal tax credit for going solar can also be applied to getting a new roof. This is sadly not the truth.

We try not to do too much tax code interpretation, but here it is, straight from the IRS: "Traditional building components that primarily serve a roofing or structural function generally don't qualify. For example, roof trusses and traditional shingles that support solar panels don't qualify, but solar roofing tiles and solar shingles do because they generate clean energy."

Check out their website for more information on what does and doesn't qualify: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/residential-clean-energy-credit#expenses
