Are you Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH)? Or do you have normal hearing but are a heavy sleeper?

As a hard of hearing mama of three I need to hear my babies in the middle of the night. I used to think that my husband would just wake me up if they cried but the truth is he's often out of town for work or he leaves to go before the sun comes up. Plus, he could easily sleep through it!

So what did I do? I've yet to find one device that takes care of everything - so here's my best solution from when I was in the newborn trenches!

1. Baby monitor. Baby monitor: I use Infant Optics, which allows for multiple cameras.

2. Baby Cry Signaler and Receiver Combo. Instructions say to put the signaler in the baby's room but I've found it's too far from the receiver that's in my room to be consistent. Place the signaler next to the baby monitor to pick up crying. The receiver plugs into my alarm clock. Adjust sensitivity as needed.

The signaler has a turn knob that allows you to adjust the sensitivity to crying/loud sounds. I plug the signaler into a power strip next to my bed, then the receiver into the built-in outlet on the back of my alarm clock.

3. Vibrating Alarm Clock with Built-In Outlet. With the receiver plugged into the back of the alarm clock, you will now be awoken anytime the baby cries. Voila!

I use the Sonic Alert SB1000 Sonic Boom. It has a built-in outlet for a lamp and a vibrating feature. For newborns, I'd just use the light to avoid waking my husband. ⁣

I've heard of other ideas such as wearing an Apple Watch or FitBit to bed, using the iPhone sound recognizer, etc. I've never tried them since this always worked for me. Send any questions my way - I'm more than happy to try to help!
