Today in their semester-opening devotional addresses, Sister and President Worthen talked about facing challenges and hope. President Worthen shared these four hopes he has for you this semester:

1. That you stay safe and healthy
2. That you discover or rediscover the joy of discovery
3. That you feel fully a part of the BYU community
4. That you feel God’s love for you individually

His address was all about hope, and how it can both be a predecessor to, and a product of, faith.

“When the gap between where we are and where we want to be seems so vast as to be unbridgeable, when our hope is so small it appears to be of no significance, when it feels like all we can do is hang on to the last shred of hope we have, be assured that, that can be enough.”

“Because of His atoning sacrifice, Christ has the power to transform all our righteous desires into reality. Our role is to believe in Him and His gospel and teachings enough that He can work with us; that we allow Him to shape our desires so that our will aligns with His.”

President Worthen closed his address with this:

“I hope we can each develop a loving, genuine concern for the welfare of all of God’s children, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation or other distinguishing feature, each of which is secondary to our common identity as beloved spirit children of Heavenly parents.”

“God's love for you is perfect because you are you — and you are His."
