✨ 🩶 Mental health is more than just feeling good or bad. It’s about your emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Taking good care of yourself can help keep your mental health in check and support you if you’re dealing with a mental illness.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s was tough for folks like me who had mental health issues, but didn’t even know it. I tried my best to act normal, get good grades, and be like everyone else, but it was hard. Maintaining strong friendships was a struggle, and I spent a lot of time alone in my room, drawing for hours. No one seemed to get me, and I didn’t really know what it meant to be happy. Art was my escape back then, and it probably kept me sane.

But now, I know that it’s okay to have ups and downs, and that it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. I’ve got better coping mechanisms now, and I’m surrounded by amazing friends who love and support me. I feel happy often, and I’m grateful for all the good things in my life. Our disorders don’t define us!

The things that I do to feel better and nurture my mental health are:

Step outside, look around and take a few long, deep breaths.
Go for a walk.
Grab an essential oil and savor the aroma.
Step on my yoga mat and move mindfully.
Play in the dirt and tend to my plants.
Snuggle with a pet.
Call a friend.
Take a bath before bedtime, apply my Lavender Oil to my feet and get ready for a restful night’s sleep.

It’s actually important that we all do these types of things for ourselves and for the communities that we are a part of. When we thrive, our communities thrive!

I hope this helps you when you’re going through a tough time. Remember, asking for help or seeking professional help isn’t a sign of weakness, but of strength!

Prioritize your mental health, today and everyday.
