The Pacific Northwest is, probably, headed into a La Niña winter this year, which isn’t exactly a shock.

While last winter had a strong El Niño pattern, La Niña is quite common.

“We actually, believe it or not, had three back-to-back La Niñas from 2020 to 2023," said Michelle L’Heureux, a meteorologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s El Niño-Southern Oscillation team, on Wednesday. “We had a lot of La Niñas.”
