It’s #NationalComingOutDay so here are some statistics: 
“80% of participants have experienced or witnessed homophobia in sport with homophobic language the most common.” (OutSports, OutonTheFields, 2018) 

“80% of lesbian, gay, and bisexual athletes and 82% of transgender athletes kept their identity hidden from their coaches.” (HRC, University of. Connecticut, 2018) 
“76% of LGBT respondents said they refrain from athletic competition.” (HRC, University of. Connecticut, 2018) 
“41 percent of transgender boys, 34 percent of transgender girls and 31 percent of non-binary youth never feel safe in the locker room.” (HRC, University of. Connecticut, 2018) 

“More than 95% of the athletes surveyed said their teammates’ responses to them coming out were overall “neutral” to “perfect.” (Outsports, the University of Winchester and the Sports Equality Foundation., 2021 ) 

While things are far from perfect, the environment is changing and getting better! This is thanks to: countless DEI programs across the country investing in their care for student athletes’ wellness, groups like athleteally & outsports leading the charge in research and advocacy, & fellow student athletes fighting for representation and change on the ground level.💪🏾❤️‍🔥
Inclusion matters and it always will. In order to be able to bring your full self to the team, to the court, to the school and to your LIFE, you need to be able to be given that space to BE your full authentic self. It changes the game when it comes to performance and mental health. 🧠⚡️
Inclusion literally improves team performance, innovation, & importantly: saves lives. Lives that are wasted being hid from the world in fear of rejection and violence..❤️‍🩹
Let’s keep investing in the wellness and protection of our athletes & safe spaces. Let’s keep fighting bigotry and hatefulness. Sports show the glory of what can happen when people come together regardless of differences, to fight towards a common goal. So let’s keep coming together, keep fighting, & keep showing what it means to lead with love!! So finally we can ALL PLAY SPORT as ourselves & as one.❤️🏆 #SportsAreForEverybody #OneLove
