Someone reached out to me a while ago asking, "My good friend's son has hearing loss. How can I be a better support/better friend for her?" I cannot tell you with words how full this made my heart feel.

🦻For your deaf/hard of hearing friends and family, support and going the extra mile could look like: -Clapping with the rhythm while playing music
-Providing extra visuals while talking (think pointing or hand gestures if you don't know the sign)
-Reducing distracting noise in the house when they're over.
-Turning on closed captions on for movies/TV.
-Remembering to get their attention before speaking.

🦻For adults it could also be nixing the stand up comedy show for something more engaging or interactive because live shows aren't always accessible for the deaf/hard of hearing. Or if possible call ahead of time to ask/arrange for accessibility options! 💕But for other walks of life - not just those who are DHH, it is trying to look at life in a way that is a different experience. It's finding out how and treating them the way they'd like to be treated - not necessarily the way that YOU would want to be treated. Think ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL.

💕To have someone in your corner that looks at your relationship or friendship through the lens of "what can I bring to the table?" is one of the most amazing blessings that life can offer. I know I'm grateful to have been on the receiving end of that. How can we promote and encourage this?

Start here. Start now. Start with yourself. 💕What one small thing could you do that could make a significant impact in someone else's life? If you're willing to make a change - leave a 👋🏼 in comments and tell us how!
