Firstly, I am forever grateful for meeting Alexis and her sticking by my side through countless struggles and hardships during these times and being the best woman I could ask for.

I also want to thank the Longoria family from the bottom of my heart - you helped me go back to schools when I was 14. To Christian, Mrs. Billie Jo, Mr. Steve, Emma and the cats, thank you.

I’m no motivational speaker, this is just my story - maybe to inspire someone else to keep going when you feel low.

When I finished the 3rd grade my parents pulled us out of schools to homeschool us. My education from grades 4-8 consisted of Halo 2, CoD4 and wii sports. Dad suspected us of not doing work? Lied, then proceeded to fill out quarterly tests with the answer keys. I got some social interaction with old classmates, mainly through sports, but I was the oddball weirdo kid.

When my friends parents let me use their address in MS to go to school, I was excited, but was really scared because I was on a 3rd grade education level in all fronts. My first math test I got a 12. I remember asking Christian for help in math/science on SIMPLE things, and he looked at me like I was literally stupid, but I didn’t know things-I wasn’t taught.

I did ok, I met a lot of people I’m grateful to have met. I did well at Christian Brothers and graduated with first honors.

This year, becoming a father and finishing my Master of Science, was a double whammy that made it the hardest year of my life. I experienced many downs. Depressive episodes. Hopelessness. Obviously, I came on top, a better man, father, partner and more educated.

If you ever feel like there is no hope, you need to simply press forward. Even when it’s hard. Even off no sleep, assignments due, have to be at work early and take care of a child. It’s worth it. Next? OTS > Aerospace Physiology.”
