The pandemic-driven shift to working from home sparked a great (and often heated) debate about the shortcomings of traditional offices. And as many companies crafted return-to-office plans, many seized the opportunity to imagine a better way forward. The result? The New HQ, a wave of groundbreaking spaces that put employee well-being and flexibility front and center.⁠

Pharmaceutical giant Roche, for example, has a grand vision for its new space in Grenzach-Wyhlen, Germany. The “nonhierarchical” space is meant to bring people together and invite unrestrained movement—“epitomizing the architectural translation of the cultural shift around new ways of working,” says Daniel Monheim, partner in charge at christgantenbein, the architecture firm behind the project.⁠

JPMorgan Chase doesn’t just want another office—it’s out to create a “world-class wellness and hospitality experience for employees.” To turn that concept into reality, the financial company is bringing in architecture firm fosterandpartners along with a team of experts, including wellness guru deepakchopra and restauranteur dhmeyer from ushgnyc.⁠

Another much-anticipated addition? Google’s new Bay View Campus in Mountain View, California, USA. To create the ultra-flexible space of small “neighborhoods,” OfficialHeatherwickStudio and big_builds drew on years of data about employee work habits.⁠

And proving it’s not just office workers whose spaces are being reimagined, there’s the new SecureMeters factory in Sanand, India. The challenge given to studiosaar.design? “Create an environment to make complex, cutting-edge technology that uplifts the spirits of those in the workplace.”⁠
