As we recognize Cities and Towns Week, let’s shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of our city—our Public Works Department! 🚧 While they work diligently behind the scenes, their contributions are essential to keeping our community thriving and ensuring our city is a clean and safe place for everyone.

One of their most critical responsibilities is road maintenance, which plays a vital role in our everyday lives. Well-maintained roads are essential for ensuring the safety of our residents, providing reliable access to schools, businesses, and emergency services. Their work includes everything from filling potholes and repaving roads to ensuring proper drainage systems are in place to prevent flooding during storms. 🌧️🚜

But their impact doesn’t stop there! They also manage alleys and utility easements, making sure all infrastructure is functional and accessible. By overseeing speed humps, traffic signals and conducting traffic counts, they help maintain road safety and promote a smooth flow of traffic. 🛣️

Our Public Works Department is also committed to hazard mitigation planning, which includes essential tasks like storm drain channel maintenance. By ensuring these channels are clear and functioning properly, they help prevent flooding and protect our community during heavy rainfall. 🌊⚠️

Additionally, they foster a clean environment through programs like Household Hazardous Waste Day ♻️ and the Adopt a Road Program, which encourages community involvement in keeping our streets clean. They also engage in graffiti cleanup to ensure our city remains inviting and vibrant.
