As Portlanders welcomed a dry and relatively warm fall morning Saturday, a group of more than 100 meteorologists and weather enthusiasts gathered for the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society’s annual Winter Weather Forecast Conference at OMSI to discuss a colder weather forecast on the horizon — one with a chance of heavier snows and stronger winds than last winter due to a likely La Niña event.

“You tend to see our biggest snowfalls down in the valley when we are in a weak La Niña,” Bobby Corser, president of the American Meteorological Society’s Oregon Chapter told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “If that’s really what happens, if you do like snow, chances are we’ll probably see that this year.”
