Today, the individuals known as the "Central Park Five," who were wrongly convicted of a brutal assault in New York City in 1989, have filed a defamation lawsuit against former President Donald Trump. This comes after he continued to accuse them, particularly during the presidential debate, where he suggested they were responsible for the crime.

In response to a comment from Vice President Kamala Harris regarding Trump's history with the Central Park Five, Trump claimed that they had initially pleaded guilty to the assault before changing their plea to not guilty during the debate. He also stated that they "killed a person ultimately." As you may recall, Trump interjected himself into the matter in 1989 when he took out full-page ads in New York’s major newspapers calling for the death penalty for whoever responsible further leading to division in the city.
