Hey, business owner, have you filed your self-assessment yet? Paper deadline: 31 Oct, online deadline: 31 Jan 2025.

Any business owner needs to file a self-assessment with HMRC each year. And you need to pay the tax you owe by midnight 31 January 2025. There’s usually a second payment deadline of 31 July if you make advance payments towards your bill (known as ‘payments on account’).

You’ll usually be charged a penalty if you’re late although you can appeal against a penalty if you have a reasonable excuse but we wouldn’t recommend this.
