It’s very tempting to stop my fitness routines when I’m traveling. And don’t get me wrong—sometimes, I do stop running altogether. But these breaks are more calculated the mere “I just don’t feel like it” vacations from running. If I feel like my body and brain require an extended recovery, then I try and make sure that coincides with travel.

But, this last trip to Europe, I really wanted to keep up with both running and a little strength training. The misconception that many people have of runners (or any athlete, really) is that they LOVE the physical activity they’ve committed to; but, that’s not true for me. I don’t LOVE any physical activity (well, unless you count sitting on the couch watching K-dramas a physical activity). But I do love getting to know a city or town I’ve never been to before and I use that as my “bait” to put on my running shoes and step outdoors.

BUT, I also cut myself some slack. I can stop as often as I want to take pictures. I can go so slow I’m practically walking, if necessary. And I usually keep it to 4 to 8 miles, max. And, as I said, I eat lots of gelato!

I mean, what even is the point if you don’t get to eat gelato?

What are some of the things you do to keep up with your fitness habits while traveling?
