After entering Czechia via Prague, I traveled by bus to Brno to join my travel content creation colleagues traverseevents and one of our first group activities was a visit to szlednice. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site that’s part of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, selected as one of only 34 sites in the EU to be featured in the ‘World Heritage Journeys’ sustainable travel platform developed in collaboration with National Geographic and supported by the European Union. The Lednice we visited is a Neo-Gothic reconstruction from the 19th century built on a Renaissance chateau and Gothic fort on land whose records date back to at least 1222. A former residence of the Liechtensteins - and long before them the Austrian nobleman Sigfried Sirotek in 1249; it is surrounded by one of Europe's largest parks containing the Palm House, the Venetian fountain, Roman aqueduct, the Chinese Pavilion, artificial ruins minaret and Johns Castle. We were only given enough time to rush through part of the house and the greenhouse but what I saw does make me want to go back for longer to see more of it. Intricate carved wood paneling gives way to stained glass and velvet wall coverings where live music greets you via talented hands manipulating stringed instruments next to gloriously lavish floral displays and a greenhouse that overflows with ornate ironwork and massive tropical plants that would be the envy of the set designer on a movie such as Jurassic Park. Visiting is being transported into another world. Which I now have been as I am writing this from Estonia! My laptop is no longer reading my memory cards or hard drive so I cannot share the rest of my time in Czechia or Hungary till I’m home in LA as I’d focused on capturing camera content, not phone, while there. These were the last images I managed to get off my cards before the error occurred. But now I am in Estonia and required to share live so c’est la vie. It just means more time to think up more thoughtful captions and more carefully consider what images to share from the first part of this grand European tour I’ve been on that started with #traverse22
