My primary reason for being in @lechzuers on #AustrianTime was to continue my hiking experiences by taking on one of the sections of the Grüner Ring. For experienced hikers, accustomed to the altitudes and conditioned for the activity, the Green Ring is a three day circuit that takes you up and around and back down into the town of Lech as well as the surrounding villages. I had only a few hours to do one section and even that was a distinct challenge for me, exhausted already from several days of hiking in Bregenzerwald and unaccustomed to the altitude. By the time this photo was kindly taken of me by my guide, I was scared of what was to come that night. I could feel a migraine already beginning. And not a small one. Little did I know I'd also be unable to walk that night or the next morning. I tell you all of this because honesty is of utmost importance to me doing what I do. I'm supposed to suggest you hike the Green Ring. And I do suggest that!! Views like this *pale* in comparison to the beauty you can see at the higher altitudes. They simply leave you speechless. However, I never ever want to tell you to do something just because I'm supposed to. So what I want to let you know is that if you're going to hike in Austria -- please be prepared, do some training, listen to your body, and stop when you need to. Pack sunscreen, you wouldn't believe how strong the rays are on top of the mountains. And don't underestimate your need for water. Carry more than you think you'll need. Please. If you do those things, you'll take away memories of such beauty you will think Austria must be heaven. 🇦🇹 Oh, and please stay at @gasthof_hotel_rotewand because you're going to need good food to sustain you during & after your hikes.
