If you've seen any photos of Paris then you must have seen the structure that houses this staircase: the Arc de Triomphe. @dante.vincent & I climbed a lot of steps while in Paris but this was one of the more interesting climbs. It's like a Nautilus and is a #fibonaccispiral Unlike Notre Dame where you can't see more than what's directly in front of you, here you can see around you and below you while climbing the 280+ steps to the roof of one of France's most important military monuments. It's not as claustrophobic or enclosed and yet it is tiring, enough to make the view doubly rewarding when you emerge 49 meters (162 feet) above Paris and have 360 degree views of the city all around you; able to see out to la Défense, Montmartre, the Eiffel Tower and the whole of the Champs-Élysées down to Place de la Concorde and the Louvre! I recommend arriving in time to be first in line at 10 AM and if you're early you can see the eternal flame that rests at the base of the Arc on street level, which hasn't been extinguished since it was lit in 1923! Or look up to see the incredible carved details that decorate the Arc, which include the names of those who fought for France in the Napoleonic Wars. I've driven by all of this dozens of times while in Paris both in the day and at night and I always marveled at the giant flag which hangs in the middle around 14 July but getting up close, going up inside and being on top was one of the more enjoyable touristy things I've done in Paris and I wouldn't mind doing it again! 🇫🇷
