Meet Chris Koslowski, senior instructional design lead and author of Kayfabe! #ReingoldSpark✨

Q: What is your SPARK?
👪: Friends and family. I’ve been extremely lucky to have a great group of supportive, loving people in my life, and that extends to the Reingold family as well. Shoutout to all the folks here. I have a great, supportive network that fuels me and replenishes me and wants to see me succeed unconditionally. It can be challenging for me to give that back, so I’m especially thankful for it.

Q: What inspires you to write?
✍: I’ve always been a creator. When I was a kid, I would make little home movies. I would write little dumb short stories and do illustrations. Every so often, I’ll just get that spark where I have to create something. My medium is writing, so I’m always tinkering away at some little thing.

Q: What are some fun things you do to fight writer's block?
🥊: Once I’m in the writer’s seat, I get into a flow state, and it’s nice. But I have a lot of inertia to overcome. Especially when I was writing the book, I tried a lot of tricks. One was that I would only drink coffee when I was writing. Another was I would layer things together that are good for you. So, for instance, I would go to the gym; find a quiet, out-of-the-way corner to write for an hour or so; and then go work out. So, when I left the gym, I’m like, “OK, I wrote. I worked out. Today is a success.”

Q: If you could spend a day with anyone (real or fictional) who inspires your writing, who would it be and why?
💻: Hank Green of the brothers Hank and John Green. Hank is perhaps the lesser-known of the two, but he’s an author himself. Hank also has ulcerative colitis, which is a gastrointestinal autoimmune disease similar to the one that I have. Hank has figured out how to be an internet celebrity and use his powers for good. I admire that because I think, secretly, I want to be a YouTuber and always have, but I am very afraid of trying and failing — or even trying and succeeding because then people know who I am. Hank is always thinking about what he can do with his position to educate people and raise money for good causes.
