When asked what the most surprising part was about helping her daughter, Ellie, navigate the transition to adult health care, Jean talked about how hard it was to find a new family doctor. Even with support from Holland Bloorview, and lots of advocacy, their search for a GP took over a year. 

“What was not surprising was how much time, effort and missed school and work was involved in Ellie’s discharge appointments in pediatric care and initial appointments with new adult providers right around the time of her 18th birthday,” says Jean. “While we knew this would be a lot, it was even more time and energy consuming that we expected it to be.”
