HEIR SUPPLY: “Murder’s in the Heir,” a student-directed murder mystery play, had its second and final showing on Tuesday evening in the FABT. The two Theatre 2 classes produced two different plays, “Murders in the Heir,” and “Dinner at 8, Dead by 9,” the latter of which has its final showing tonight.

Sophomore Tegan Hahn stepped up to serve as the student director of “Murder’s in the Heir.”

“Directing the show was really fun, it was a new experience for me,” Hahn said. “When I started directing, I thought I’d be more of an assistant director, but I turned out to be more of a full student director of the show, and I had a lot of responsibility, but I had a lot of fun and the cast was super willing to work with me. “We got stuff done really fast, and it was just a really good experience overall.”

Hahn also had to step into the role of Rufus, an arrogant household handyman, with only a week’s prior notice. Doing so enabled her to get closer to her castmates as she was to be performing with them on stage, rather than observing them behind the scenes.

She said that being able to work with the cast was her favorite part of this experience.

“I really like the pacing of it,” Hahn said. “I think it’s a really fun show, and it has a lot of opportunities for different people to shine on stage. It’s more of an ensemble cast than one with two prominent roles, so I like getting to explore the character relationships and dynamics and really get in-depth with the cast.”

During intermission, the audience decides by popular vote who the killer is going to be during Act 2.

Sophomore Finley McBride played the role of Fiona Starkweather, and who was voted the murderer, said that the process overall was very satisfying.

‘It was all student-directed, we all got to collaborate and make it our own,” McBride said. “I feel like a lot of times, it’s just ‘student and director,’ but this was a collaborative effort, and we all got to be sort of a family.”
