THEY SLAYED (SO TO SPEAK): The second-period Theatre 2 class performed its first showing of “Dinner at 8, Dead by 9” a murder mystery filled with unique and comical characters on Friday night in the Fine Arts Building Theater. Along with the showing of “Murders in the Heir” on Thursday night, the Theater 2 classes have prepared two short straight plays for family and students to come watch.

Lucia McNamara, who plays Hadley in “Dinner at 8, Dead by 9,” says the class has put a lot of effort into the show.

“We have been working on this play during class and outside of school for about a month or so,” McNamara said.

Despite some small mistakes, McNamara thinks the showing went well and was glad that the audience seemed to enjoy it.

“I think that the audience thought it was funny and it was a good show,” McNamara said. “There was a lot more improv than there was supposed to be, but everyone played it off very well.”

According to McNamara, the cast worked well with each other to get the play done and ready for the opening. She gives credit to Nytlie Herron, a sophomore in the class who directed the show, for creating a positive environment leading up to the performance.

“I think we worked well together,” McNamara said. “Nytlie was a really good director, she was super encouraging and made it such a fun and safe space to be in.”

Not only was it the opening night for the show, but it was also McNamara’s first performance at McCallum. Even though she was nervous, she got through it and is looking forward to the next showing.

“It was our first class performance and my first performance at McCallum,” McNamara said. “I’m relieved that the first show is done, and I think the second show will be better now that we got the hang of it.”

You can come see the next performance of “Dinner at 8, Death by 9” on Wednesday FABT at 6:30 p.m. The second and final showing of “Murders in the Heir” is 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the FABT.
