How many of you have a similar love story in your book?? No judgment!!

I was truly heartbroken by this guy—but I think it was because I was in love with this imaginary boy that I’d created in my head. That’s the danger of the internet, right? The truths we see on our phones or computers… they may bear only the scantest resemblance to ACTUAL truth. Whether it’s a person you admire (or fall in love with, as the case may be), a “PSA” about the dangers of seed oils, or a piece of “journalism” on something happening overseas, in this age of misinformation, a lot more is at stake than the disillusionment of love.

What was the ending to this story about the Boy I fell in love with on the Internet? Well, I nursed my broken heart for months. But during that time, I met another Boy, the one I called “South Loop Piano Guy.” In the beginning with “Piano Guy,” it was hard for me NOT to wish I was with the Internet Boy and, sadly, I was often very distracted on our dates. And then… I discovered all the many truths about Internet Boy (several of which I have not disclosed here because they’re even grosser) and POP. It was like having my hearing restored after getting off a plane.

And all of a sudden, I could hear the beautiful rendition of Debussy Piano Guy was playing for me on his Steinway.

A few years later?

I married the South Loop Piano Guy.
