It has been a pleasure getting to know all of the books on the #2020BookerPrize shortlist. 

We wanted to take a moment to look back at our six shortlisted authors in this series of interviews, which were initially filmed for the @BBCTwo documentary about prize, and then showcased during the 2020 Booker Prize winner ceremony. 

First up, author Diane Cook discusses how her own experiences as a mother are reflected in her novel, The New Wilderness: 

‘Secretly, maybe not so secretly, the book is about mothers and daughters… I just wanted it to feel complicated and real and a little uncomfortable… because I think those are the feelings I’ve had in my life about both of my roles… I really wanted to have on the page a mother who is a person, and not just a mother.’
